Blacks in America have taken advantage of social media, into a business: from clothing boutiques, to organic natural hair products. The National Women Business Council released statistics for black owned businesses: “There are 911,728 African American women-owned businesses in the United States. This reflects a tremendous 66.7% increase in number since 2002 and a 191.4% increase since 1997. In comparison, African American men-owned businesses grew 93.1% from 1997 to 2007.” The Black Power Movement, induced “buying black”. This was to build the economy for black people, today Black people, especially young adults, have gained an entrepreneurial spirit.
When comparing the state of Black people in 60’s and 70’s and the circumstance of now, we are at the tipping point of a New Black Power Movement. The dissatisfaction with the capitalistic society that benefits from the oppression of black people is both alarming and a seemingly a never-ending struggle. As long as there is a society that is oppressive a Black Power Movement will continue to resurge ever so often to remind Black People of their history and to teach love and acceptance of one’s
