Being culturally responsive in the classroom and recognizing cultural differences is about grasping and embracing the fact that student may come from different backgrounds, values, and beliefs. Learning about one’s own culture, beliefs, and values is an important stride in truly understanding, recognizing, and appreciating other cultures. When using this self-reflection, teachers are able to acknowledge how their own views influence their teaching and how it may have lead to expectations that were not appropriate for their students.
