Essay on Being A Positive On My Community

Being something positive in my community has always been a thing i’ve wanted but, not necessarily knew how to accomplish. It wasn’t until I was a freshman in highschool, I had the opportunity to actually be apart of an institution with a positive outcome. My family had been at a financial crisis, where my father had been laid off from work and going without work for months. This left my mother to be the only one with a job, while my father had unemployment checks being sent monthly. My father had to humble himself, and one day while driving on the road, we saw a sign that said “ free groceries”. This pastor was giving out free groceries to the community, due to signed petitions that are given to stores like safeway or food max. The signatures would come from people who were desperate and a lot of times homeless. It did not occur to me that, One day i’d be one of the people distributing the food to others.

My dad asked me if I’d be willing to help their cause, in order for us to give back and of course I thought it was a great idea. This church event slowly but surely changed buildings and eventually cooperated in partnership with the Salvation Army. I would serve people in need groceries for 2-3 hours almost every saturday for 3 years straight. This was a very humbling experience for me, and the process made me feel accomplished for what I was doing for the community. The process would start with less fortunate / homeless people lining up hours before the free food event…
