Born Gay? A choice; the ability to do whatever one wishes at his or her own pace. It is a choice to wake up in the morning and go to school. It is a choice to pick out the clothes one wishes to wear for the day. It is a choice to choose who and what one fall in love with…. At least that’s what people seem to believe. Everyday members of the LGBT community hear things like “why are you so gay”, or “Stop being such a fag” or play games like “Smear the Queer”, as though what they identify as has some sort of impact on the lives of others in anyway. Being Gay/Bi isn’t a choice. No one would choose this life.Putting their own lives at risk everyday; but there are those who believe that, that is exactly what is being down. It is a very simple statement with a great deal of meaning. Suicide is the 2nd leading cause in deaths of young teens in the United States; out of which LGBT teens are 4 times more likely to kill themselves.(Facts About Suicide." Facts About Suicide. N.p., n.d. Web. 30 Apr. 2016) If it is a choice to be gay then why is it that so many of our young LGBT teens look to killing themselves rather than face the world’s constant attacks. A man by the name of Chris Thompson who is a Heteralsexual or “straight male” wrote an article after hear that people who aren’t gay themselves believe that gays are choosing to be gay. The article simply asked for gay males and females to answer and submit whether or not they were choosing to be gay. Some of the answers Thompson received back were the following “Being gay is not a choice. No one would choose to be gay and go through all the ridicule.” or “Growing up I would have chosen straight if I could so the ass kicking would have stopped.” (The Huffington Post. Web. 30 Apr. 2016.).A hundred years ago men and women were being beaten and killed or denied rights for being anything but white and over time we as people started noticing that this was not right and a complete disrespect of human rights that we are all “born with”.
