The current British government has introduced bedroom tax policy 2013 to cut down government spending. The policy applies to those who are in receipt of housing benefit and among those are tenants of social housing and are in working age group. Moreover, it also affect people who have unoccupied bedrooms in particularly those whom their children are already grown up and left their parents homes. Consequently, this has resulted in having the benefit capped and has affected over 66,000 people across Britain. A research took place over the period of two years and over 400 people were interviews, the result showed that people of working age group living in social housing are hit with distressful time of their lives. For example a family from Wovermpton who raised their two children in social housing had their benefit cut by 25% because they have two unoccupied bedrooms due to the children moving out. These impacts have resulted in loosing families’ connection because their children cannot visit and stay for the reason that they have nowhere to stay overnight while visiting their parents. Also, a number of people who are most affected are those who are not into work due to some illnesses , disability and this had impacts on their lives because they cannot go back to work and support themselves in terms of paying rent.
