Social class has an impact on the housing in which an individual lives, for instance an affluence area or area with high levels of poverty can influence the availability of public services, sufficient housing conditions, pollution levels, crime rates; which according to Dahlgren and Whiteheads model can have a direct impact on health (Matthews, 2015). Children living in substandard housing can experience other problems such as family turmoil or a poor diet, which affect their physical and emotional development (Harker, 2006).
