Avoid ISIS Prophecy

In the New York Times article "U.S. Strategy Seeks to Avoid ISIS Prophecy, author RUKMINI CALLIMACHI argues that part of the reason that the Obama administration is reticent to start a ground war is because of a prophecy Islamic texts that the last holy war will take place in Dabiq, Syria. The article reports that ISIS uses the idea of the final holy war as a powerful recruitment tool. Thus, ISIS is reaffirming constructivism in it's utilization of ideas. By spreading the prophecy, ISIS not only uses a singular idea in order to recuit new members but also as a deterrent for the US to take action.
