Once they had landed their fight had begun. Williams at 150 pounds and 5‘6 strapped a 70 pound tank to his back for a flamethrower that could only fire 10 seconds at a time. He was able to neutralize seven Japanese pillboxes and the U.S. was able to capture over seventy thousand Japanese soldiers. They all had this certain courage in common. It‘s not a courage I can relate to I‘ve never gone to war, but it‘s something I recognize within myself. It‘s a mixture of selflessness, determination, focus. These soldiers were all determined to finish the job they signed up for, there was fear for their lives of course, but they all pushed until their work was done. They‘d all denied the titles bestowed upon them and all believed the true heroes were the ones who‘d fallen fighting until the end. The three soldiers all seemed so humble. I couldn‘t tell if it was their old age, the camera recording them, or the war. I‘d like to say the war. They all spoke about it in ways that made it seem like an experience they‘d never forget. Almost like they were grateful for the things they had learnt and thankful for whatever it was that had kept them
