One of the first things that I noticed as a thing that would help develop secure attachments were the mothers who read books to their babies; not all mothers have this option, depending on her availability to books. However, talking to, singing to, and playing with their infant are also other forms of teaching them and developing a close bond that could aid in the development of a secure attachment style. Breastfeeding is another way for that secure mother-child attachment. Breastfeeding not only gives the child the nutrients they need to survive but also strengthens the bond between mother and child. Making a child feel secure as an infant is very important. The video showed many mothers who cared for their child when they were upset. They were shown in the movie swaddling, cuddling and holding their babies. All of these things work to form secure attachments with the child and their caregivers, and will affect these children’s entire lives and future relationships in a positive …show more content…
The mothers or caregivers did not come to the aid of these infants and just let them cry by themselves. It was not apparent in some instances if they were even close by. Due to the lack of comforting these infants or giving them a sense of security, they are likely to develop insecure attachments. In one surprising scene an infant was tied from his waist to the bedpost so he couldn’t wander off. Where were the parents? What if that baby needed something and became scared because there was nobody around? That same baby was often in the supervision of his slightly older toddler brother who obviously did not like him very much and hit him. I am assuming the adults did not even know this was happening as they were not around, or busy doing other things. This baby is likely to develop an insecure attachment as he does not seem to have a caregiver who is willing to care for, teach and give this baby a sense of security. The culture may very well likely act this way in order to make their child grow up with a sense of independence. There was another baby who was getting into all kinds of things that he should not be, and his caregiver was busy on the computer, not paying attention. I feel like this probably happens a lot in American society, and maybe others too, due to the increase of technology. Caregivers need to be careful to not make this a common thing, or their child could potentially feel
