In the greek myth, Artemis and Orion, Artemis is like her brother, Apollo. Once she was born she wished to be nothing more than a huntress and be able to live on the mountains and forests of Arcadia. Her father, Zeus, granted her wish and gave her seven nymphs to help protect her, the Cylops had given her a bow and arrow which was made of pure silver. She saw him and threw a hurl of water at him, then whistled for her hounds, the hounds then ate him. Orion had heard Artemis

She was bathing in the woods naked when the skillful hunter Actaeon stumbled upon her bathing. Artemis was furious that he stared at her and turned him into a stag, a deer, and he ran away. As he ran his dogs that were hunting with him chased him down thinking he was pry and tore him to pieces (Wilson). In Valerio Castello’s painting of “Diana and Actaeon with Pan and Syrinx” the context of that story is very useful in understanding this painting. Another Greek mythological story that would bring helpful insight to this painting is that of Apollo and Daphne.…

Pandora, the famous Mythology story, a renown greek myth, and one of my all time favorites. This version I am annotating, is adapted as an epic poem with lyrical rhyme. The story is about Pandora’s husband Epimetheus who asks just one thing from her wife, and that is not to open the sacred jar. As Pandora listens to the command, she starts reminiscing of Eve in the Garden of Eden, and after much thought, she opens the sacred jar from mere struggle and temptation. Once opened, the jar gushes out evil and escapes through the outskirts of the world.…

She invented the bridle which permitted man to tame horses, the trumpet, the flute, the pot, the rake, the plow, the yoke, the ship, and the chariot. Athena's symbols are the olive tree and the owl.…
