Good Decisions
In the country of Calydon, there was a king who was sacrificing fruit for the grace of the god’s. The king had fruit for every god except for Artemis. Artemis was so furious at the king for forgetting her so in result decided to send a giant boar to kill him. The boar had eaten cattle, destroyed farmland, and killed anyone who dared tried to stop it. The king had finally decided to stop the boar by calling for every man in Greece who were strong and willing enough to stop the boar. Men from all over had shown up at the meeting. Until one day she decided to start disposing of all the men wanting to marry her. According to (Edith, 95). “She declared upon them that she would marry any man that could beat her in a foot race.” One of the hunters who helped with the boar had heard this and decided that would try. He knew he could not do it on his own, so he decided to go to the goddess of love, Aphrodite. According to (Edith, 95) “Melanion, got possession of three wondrous apples, all of pure gold, beautiful of those that grow in the garden of the Hesperides.” They started the foot race and Atalanta was in lead. Melanion threw two apples and they were almost at the finish line. He threw the third one as far as he could and It caught Atalanta’s attention causing her to slow down which led Melanion to win. After the race, Atalanta and Melanion got married, but was soon cursed by Aphrodite due to the lack of gifts towards her. Moral of the story: Do not say you are better than someone else, because you could get
