Morality and freedom is found when individual rights are respected and therefore kept. Freedom in exchanges can and will only be found when exchanges benefit both parties. The poor perceive, receiving currency for their votes as benefiting themselves (self-interest), but do not realize, soon their own wants and desires will be forgotten and the term vote will lose its meaning. In the end, this process shows how markets are favoring those with good income and putting aside those with no income. Those able to buy votes, the high income citizens, will be praised and soon the government will fail, being now run by the wealthy. Remember, only free exchanges will benefit both parties, but if you involve money in the exchange there will always be a disadvantage. In order to have a free people, we cannot allow Americans to sell their votes to the highest bidder. “Democracy does not require perfect equality, but it does require that citizens share in a common life” (Sandel).
