Should We Keep the Electoral College? Should we keep the electoral college ?
In the recent presidential races and results , many people question the fact if our system of picking our president is efficient and just. The electoral college is a unique and systematic way of picking the US president and has concerned many if it is the right way to do it . The electoral college is not the best way to pick our president and we need to omit it because rural areas are ignored ,distribution of Electoral College VpS (votes per state ) is not equal , and the risk of faithless Electors.
The electoral should not be kept because it does neglect our rural areas. In the recent election of Clinton and Trump there was a stat taken that is very eye opening. It indicated that 53 percent of campaign from Trump , Pence, Kaine ,and Clinton in two months prior of the November election were …show more content…
During that time , 87 percent of their campaign were in 12 battleground states, and none of those four candidates ever went to 27 states , which included almost almost all of rural America ( Speel). Robert Speel informs that during the election , it is a rare occasion that these people running for your country will actually want your vote. That does not sound sensible , that our future president does not care about everyone’s vote. As a country we should not ignore people and make everybody's vote seen and heard.
Another issue with the electoral college is that the votes per state (VpS) is not equal , technically meaning that some votes more than others. The system distorts one-person , one-vote principle that our democratic country
