Today we can hear all the time politicians talking about how America is great. How superior we are comparing to other countries, with our personal liberties and democratic ideals. Talks like this are the most noticeable especially during political campaigns, when we can hear candidates from both political parties arguing their points of view of American Exceptionalism. But does the term American Exceptionalism really mean and where did it come from? Bill Clinton used referred to it in 1996 when he said, “there are times when America, and only America, can make a difference between war and peace, between freedom and repression.” Those were strong words. It shows that Clinton also believed in strong America. The he was also fighting to prove that US is an unique country, that can save the world, safe democracy around the globe, and that no one else could. Even though American believe to be a guardian of peace on September 11 2001 US became a victim of the deadliest terrorist attracts in US history. But even thought lives where lost, and America was at the brink of war that did not stop people from believing that America is unique. In a time of tragedy it brought Americans together. Made them feel stronger and made the believe in country exceptional role in the world stronger. At this time we all heard president George W. Bush talking about why Islamic terrorists attack US. Bush claimed that they hated American freedoms and wished to kill all Americans because they envied this exceptional and unique …show more content…
It was exceptional because of its people. People who are a mix of all possible religions, races, cultures. People, who despite those differences can live together in peace and harmony. President Barack Obama said in his victory speech in 2012 “What makes America exceptional are the bonds that hold together the most diverse nation on Earth, the belief that our destiny is shared, that this country only works when we accept certain obligations to one another and future generations so that the freedom which so many American have fought for and died for come with responsibilities as well as rights, and among those are love and charity and duty and patriotism. That’s what makes America great.” (Obama 2012) Obama saw the differences that divide other nations in the world, but create a unique bond here on American soil. He made America unique not because it is the guardian of the world but because it is truly unique within itself, and thanks to the people who made it unique and still till this day make it
