Syrian Refugees What would you do if you had a moment 's notice to pack and leave everything you once knew? This is what has been happening to Syrians for the past few years, sometimes only having time to take their families. 22.8% of the Syrian refugees signing up with the UNHCR are 18-59 year old males while 23.8% are females. 3 out of 4 of those females are single mothers with children. (Ross 8) Since the war in Syria broke out millions of refugees are looking for a place to live. The United Nations has had the problem of placing them. One reporter went to a housing facility where some refugees are temporarily staying. “The building is dilapidated and I can 't hear the sheikh speak above the noise. Every inch of space is occupied by either people or belongings. There are at least 200 people living in a space that was condemned as unsafe some years ago. I meet Fatimah, who escaped from Syria with her husband and five children last year. Three of her nephews also live with the family and the conditions are dreadful.
