Argument Against Standardized Testing

Schools in the United States use standardized tests to evaluate the students' in elementary, middle and high school. These tests are also used for entrance into college or even to find out if a student needs to take a particular class over in college. To enter into college, a student usually will take the SAT or the ACT Exams and usually there is a fee for taking these exams. In Indiana, the students' take the ISTEP + Exam. The seniors in high school have to take the Indiana Graduation Qualifying Exam in order for them to graduate. In my opinion, I totally do not agree with this exam, because going to school for thirteen years, which includes kindergarten, and getting good grades, doing the necessary homework, being a good student, not getting into trouble and then telling us that if we do not pass this exam we cannot graduate is wrong. Standardized tests may or may not show the actual learning or potential of a student. The Article “Stop The War Against Standardized Tests”, written by Herbert J. Walberg argues these standardized tests are good ways to evaluate the students strengths and weakness in the skills they have learned in school. In the beginning, the federal government funded those states that implemented the common core standards, but now some of the states want to stop using the common core and create their own standards and testing.
