Introduction
The Arab world has many diverse influences in its, linguistic, ethnic, and religious groups. Due to war and exile, many Arabs migrated to America where millions of people created a community to advance with many opportunities. A heritage language interview was conducted to learn how Arabs continue to use their language, culture or religion in California.
Origin of the Language
The word “Arab” means “nomad,” a person who does not stay in the same place for a long time. Arabic is spoken in the Middle East, North Africa, and the Horn of Africa. The Iraqi community was the first group of Arabic speakers to immigrate to San Diego. The Iraqi’s began to migrate in the 1950’s, to San Diego, however most Iraqi’s arrived in the 1970’s and the 1980’s because of the Iran-Iraq War. After the Gulf War in the 1990’s, in addition to the invasion of 2003, the amount of refugees and other immigrants increased by thousands. The first Arabs to migrate to America was around the 1880s. Arabic learners may get confused by the lack of patterns in English that would let them distinguish nouns from verbs or adjectives and these differences between Arabic and English writing systems causes Arab learner’s significant problems. Problems in pronouncing consonants include saying the th sounds in words such as that and them, and changing the b and p at the beginning of words, and the change of f for v.
d) I hear a bird: أسمع الطيور, you hear a bird: تسمع الطيور, we hear a bird: نسمع الطيور, The boy heard a bird: سمع الفتى الطائ, The boys heard a bird: سمع الأولاد الطيور.
e) Arabic sentences use an SVO order or a VSO order depending on whether the subject or the verb is more important. In biblical Hebrew a sentence could be in SVO order, and if it’s past tense, Biblical Hebrew doesn’t have a helper verbs. Also, Arabic sentences could also be used with VOS order, which is the beginning of the word that changes depending on whether it is a subject or an object.
Conclusion
Before this research paper, I had no clue of Arabs language, religion or any aspect of the Arabic world. Fortunately
