“Can you repeat that?” seemed to be the only phrase anyone asked me. Despite English being my first language, I did not advance as quickly as others in speech and in reading. Because i did not practice pronunciation as a child, there is nobody to blame for my speech impediment except myself. Therefore, when presented the opportunity to take an AP English class in my junior year, I did not hesitate to accept - the only way for me to improve my English was to undergo an arduous class and practice.

Struggling was a normal occurrence as my grammar and syntax were not up to par with my classmates. At any instance I spoke up in class, I felt as if I was shrouded in a cloud of paranoia radiating with the sound of my peers’ laughter. Being embarrassed
