(Man/Woman): What is music? Is sound by itself music? What makes sound music? In 1952, John Cage wrote a song called, “Four Thirty-Three”. The song “Four Thirty-Three”, had no sound it it. The whole song is four minutes a thirty-three seconds of silence. John Cage said that “Four Thirty-Three” was music. When someone listens to “Four Thirty-Three”, the person can only hear the sounds of the place they are in. John Cage believed that this silence was music. What do you think? If you were stuck on an island alone, you would have to be very “productive” to survive. You would have to find food, shelter, and water. Since you would be alone, you have to do all of the work for yourself. If you were not “productive” you would not survive. Now, if you and someone else were stuck on an Island, both of you could do the work together and share things. Because you could work together, you both wouldn’t have to be as “productive”. This concept is called the “Ringelmann Effect”. The “Ringelmann Effect” says that if there are more people, each person can less “productive”. …show more content…
Well, it turns out, that it is very likely that there is life on other planets. In 1961, a scientist named Frank Drake, tried to prove that there must be life on other planets. Drake first found out how many planets there were in our galaxy. Then, he used math to find out how many of those planets were similar to earth, and could have life on them. Then he used math again to find out how many of those planets could develop intelligent life. “intelligent life” is life with similar intelligence to humans. Drake’s equation found that there could be possibly millions of planets with “intelligent life”.
