Although there are currently about sixteen million students enrolled in American colleges, college educations are still inaccessible to many people—like Erica, Tyree, and Fatoumata. Recently, the Culinary Institute of America (CIA)—along with other institutes—has gifted the possibility of a college education for students in need of scholarship money by granting them millions of dollars. Besides impressive grades and tremendous athletic ability, culinary talent is a new, emerging way for students to earn money to pay for their college tuition. It is our responsibility to continue promoting these competitions, because it provides students a college education—something they would never achieve without the scholarship money. Competitions also prepare students for the culinary world once they graduate from college, and sets them on a path to a successful future. As a collective whole, we need to continue to grant scholarships for inner city children and place them on a path that leads them to a rewarding
