Imagine watching someone you love lying on their back helpless and dying, clutching to their pillow as they are lying there lifelessly. That is the image that you perceive when you meet Green, the female orangutan that was rescued by activists in Indonesia. Unfortunately, it is too late for Green as she faces her final hours of life. This tragedy is all too familiar for the orangutans in Indonesia because their lush Indonesian rainforest home is being logged and burned to the ground through ruthless deforestation, leaving Green and other orangutans homeless. Deforestation is being caused because of corporate greed and Americans are unknowingly contributing to it. This greed is known as palm oil. Palm oil is an edible vegetable oil derived from the palm fruit which is grown on the African oil palm tree. Did you know that this single vegetable oil is found in approximately 50% of household products? Palm oil is found in such products including baking goods, shampoo, cosmetics, cleaning supplies, laundry detergents and believe or not in our toothpaste. This is disturbing to so many people but for some people they don’t care about the horrific outcome of producing palm oil.
According to the World Wildlife Fund, an area equivalent to the size of 300 football fields of rain forest is cleared each hour to make way for palm oil production. This deforestation is pushing many species to extinction, if we do not get awareness out there and nothing…
