The series was commissioned by BBC Four which tv programmes are directed to an older audience (35 years old and above). Therefore the series of documentaries is created for a more demanding audience. The directional intention is to show different aspects of art and leaves the wide interpretation of it to the public. It does not impose its own opinion but rather leaves the audience to contemplate the art and the painter's work. The director tried to show that the day of an artist is often full of struggles, problems and hesitation; that it does not look like we can imagine. Moreover, the documentary does not strictly talk about techniques and it is not full of knowledge, the directional intention was to show the human side of an artist rather that makes it as an expository
