Emerson offers his belief, “We must go alone. Isolation must precede true society. ” (Self Reliance, 552) Emerson believes that success comes from isolation because conformity can’t penetrate your mind. In his book Dyer talks about going to a quiet place where the voices can’t be heard. When confidence is shattered one can lose belief in themselves. This leads to uncertainty making it difficult to pursue one’s dreams and goals. Emerson points out, “The health of the eye seems to demand a horizon. We are never tired, so long as we can see far enough.” (Nature, 513) This quote explains that if we know what we are doing, no doubts will arise. However when we are exploring the uncharted areas, seeds of doubts will plant themselves into our brains. Without proper nourishment of confidence the seeds can sprout into weeds of fear. Dyer’s beliefs intertwine with Emerson as he says,“Be miserable. Or motivate yourself. Whatever has to be done, it's always your choice.” The quote exemplifies whatever you think, is whatever it becomes. Life gives you a situation and it is your choice what mindset to have. This lesson is very important to all ages and Emerson would be very pleased that Dyer incorporated it in his book, “think of something you love to do, that is your passion, so let it shine through.
