There are two kinds of people in the picture “Virginian Luxuries. “The white men have power, and the other black people seems that they do not have power. First, as shown at the left side of the picture, a white man well-dressed kisses to a black woman. On the right, a white man canes a half-naked black man. If think the period that this picture was drawn, it is easy to know that the white men are on a power layer, and black people are a slave. It seems that the white men oppressed these black people. In this picture, the black man is treated tranny, and the black woman is used temporarily for the white man’s desire. This picture is a good exemplary to be able to notice unequal power relationships between masters and slaves. Tocqueville explained about white people with a superior knowledge and power, Indians who go perish but live in the original their land with their custom keeping, and black slaves who are living in America away from homeland in his book “Democracy in America.” According to Tocqueville, “Among these widely differing families of men, the first that attracts attention, the superior in intelligence, in power, and in enjoyment, is the white, or European, the MAN pre-eminently so called, below him appear the Negro and the Indian (Tocqueville.)” European white people with advanced technology expelled Indians from their own land by using the power of technology, thereby making Indians in less civilized than the original state.
