Russ found that individual leaders who scored high marks in the area of Theory Y were frequently apprehensive in regards to communication. Therefore, Russ proposes that leaders who choose to operate solely under the belief that self-satisfaction is the only true reason employees desire to work or gain additional responsibility will often fail due to their inept abilities to converse with their subordinates or staff.
However, Russ did indicate that the Theory Y model had its own merits. Theory Y leaders that are only moderate in their beliefs will often be less apprehensive towards communication. Russ also explained that leaders who sought to utilize the Theory Y model often achieve better communication abilities when in a group setting, but some still demonstrate communication apprehensiveness in personal meetings.
