At Michael Mixon and Associates, CPAs, there is a dilemma within the organization related to management’s aspiration to expand its operations to two full-time locations. Moreover, the issue at Michael Mixon and Associates, CPAs hinges on management’s belief that the employees of the organization are willing to accept additional responsibilities and duties simply due to their desire for self-gratification and achievement, not related to monetary reward or punishment. As such, the article by Russ (2013) has been applied to the organization issue present at Michael Mixon and Associates, CPAs to reflect how management’s Theory Y mindset may affect the success of its expansion ambitions.

Russ found that individual leaders who scored high marks in the area of Theory Y were frequently apprehensive in regards to communication. Therefore, Russ proposes that leaders who choose to operate solely under the belief that self-satisfaction is the only true reason employees desire to work or gain additional responsibility will often fail due to their inept abilities to converse with their subordinates or staff.
However, Russ did indicate that the Theory Y model had its own merits. Theory Y leaders that are only moderate in their beliefs will often be less apprehensive towards communication. Russ also explained that leaders who sought to utilize the Theory Y model often achieve better communication abilities when in a group setting, but some still demonstrate communication apprehensiveness in personal meetings. Russ utilized the point of view that a moderate amount of both Theory X and Y would help an organization’s leader to effectively communicate, but Russ also indicated that managers, which apply more of Theory Y, will often approach a situation much differently than their Theory X counterparts (Russ,
