In this documentary it discusses the use of anabolic steroids and how they are used as a performance enhancing drug. It is a widely used drug in the United States to achieve the American dream. They have been part of sports for many years now. Some people think it has made it a sport filled with drugs and dealers instead of talent and skill. Others say without it sports would not be able to progress like it has and that it needs to be legalized so that every athlete has equal access and the knowledge needed to consume the product. Steroids have transformed sports and the entertainment industry in many ways, such as celebrities and bodybuilders using steroids to assist in gaining muscle size. Anabolic steroids are an artificial version of testosterone which everyone naturally has in our bodies. They increase proteins within cells of the skeletal muscles. Steroids were developed in the 1930’s and used in medicine to stimulate muscle growth and appetite. During World War II they were used to help soldiers who were malnourished gain weight and performance. In 1956 Soviet athletes used testosterone during the Olympics. When the U.S. found out an American Physician named Dr. Zeigler created anabolic steroids, which is a more selective form. Then from the 1970’s steroids became increasingly popular amongst Olympic athletes, professional sports players and high school athletes.
