Monster - ODD Questions
1.)
I believe the author of “Monster” named the story this because the story tells about The trial of Steve Harmon a sixteen year old African- American boy who is accused of murder. When Kathy O'Brien says "a human being in their eyes."(pg. 19, Myers) The jury only sees him as a monster because they think he killed Mr. Nesbitt and committed the murder, They thought he committed a crime that he didn't and it is very unfair to be blamed for something he didn’t do. "He is writing monster over and over again" (p.24, Myers). Writing the story from Steve’s Journal was effective because it gives the reader Steve’s point of view and his side of the story. This is an effective way to write the story because it helps the reader understand better and makes them think about this happening in real life because it was written from a person’s point of view.
5.)
I never changed my opinion on whether Steve was innocent or not because I thought he was innocent. I did not change my opinion on Steve during the book because I thought he was innocent because back then the blacks were always blamed for many things they actually didn’t do and they were innocent but they were always found guilty because of their skin color.
7.) In my opinion, being a conspirator is not just as bad as doing the actual crime. Being a conspirator is not as bad as committing the actual crime because they are not the actual person who shot the man they were watching out, and grabbing the cigarettes. No one knew that everything would go bad and someone would die. It is not as bad because it wouldn’t be fair if they were convicted for murder if only one of them is the one who actually
