Nobody in the world is perfect. In today’s society, there are people who either make good or bad choices, and there is always an outcome to it. In the novel Monster, there are three people who are accused of Mr.- Nesbitt’s murder. Steve is a 16-year-old from Harlem who is on trial for participating in robbery and murder. As well as James King and Richard Evans who is known by the name “Bobo”. Steve may be the lookout for the robbery that was being made, but he wasn’t responsible for Mr. Nesbitt’s death. For starters, Steve actually knew about the robbery because his friends told him, precisely King. Steve and King were having a conversation before the robbery even begun. King walks up to Steve and talks to him saying, “Hey, I found where payday is. All I need is a lookout. You know, check this place out make sure there ain’t no badges copping some z’s in the back. You down for it?” (150). This quote indicates that he knew about the robbery and was involved somehow. …show more content…
For example, when the judge told him if he was at the drugstore he said: “No, I was not.” (224). However, towards the beginning on page 140, he wrote in his journal, “I walked into a drugstore to look for some mints.” This clearly shows how he was not able to recognize his own mistakes. He actually lied saying he was not present there, but in reality, he was. Even though Steve never answered back, throughout the book bobo soon comes to testify saying that Steve was there. However, he never knew if he was really on the lookout. So what does this really mean? This gives a clue that Steve was there, but he probably changed his mind about being the lookout and walked out of the
