The book is an autobiography for two Wes Moores: the author and the convict. Both men grew up fatherless, grew up in Baltimore, and grew up in difficult circumstances, yet the author is a successful entrepreneur and veteran while the convict is in prison for life. Throughout the novel “The Sun Also Rises,” by Ernest Hemingway, the characters are often represented as “lost” both mentally and physically, in negative and positive ways. This is evident when Brett announces, “I won’t be one of those bitches,” exclaiming that she is finally coming to realize who she wants to be and what she wants from a man(247). That disease is the vitriolic way in which the world treats its citizens. The world has an innate way of tearing down others for the sake of succeeding but success is possible with out the destruction of the individual. All by Herself During the writing of “The Yellow Wallpaper” by Charlotte Perkins Gilman, she goes to great depths and lengths to describe the young, upper-middle-class woman who is newly married to a physician named John and a mother yet a nameless narrator who has a character of what she describes herself as, “a slight hysterical tendency” (Gilman 64). One great example of this is when Benedick first comes back from war and her first remark to him is “I wonder that you will still be talking, Signior Benedick, nobody marks you” (A1; S1; L114-115). This not only shows her hatred toward Benedick in the beginning of the play but also shows that she can have a very wicked tongue and she is not afraid to speak her mind. Telling him that she does not know why he even wastes his breath by talking, nobody respects him so in her mind he should do them all a favor and just not talk. The Two Wes Moore’s and Their Different Choices President Mark Keenums statement about the other Wes Moore was completely true when he said “That’s what [The Other Wes Moore] is all about. Two people with virtually identical lives, the only difference between them being the choices they made. Their choices made all the difference” (Keenum). He lives in an upscale New York apartment and during his free time enjoys playing the piano. Melvin expresses prejudicial attitudes, including anti-Semitism, racism, and heterosexism. He made several of these comments, claiming “assault and battery and your black,” to his neighbor’s black friend, “there’s Jews at my table,” along with another stereotypical comment about their “big noses,” and he even introduced his neighbor as “Simon the fag,” a homophobic slur.
