The traditional Japanese family is very similar to the typical American family from the 1950’s, with a few minor differences. When the parents get to old their children take care of them, but here in the United States that’s not as common. My mother goes to University, and all of us do the housework. So it’s not just one of us doing the chores it’s all of us. My mother used to stay home and take care of us, but as we got older she didn’t really need to do that anymore. So she got a part time job to help provide. A Japanese family would have to take care of the ageing grandparents, but we really won’t have to do that. They would just go to a retirement home, which is totally different from what a Japanese family would do. I would say my family is more similar then different then a Japanese
