Today’s childhood obesity rates have skyrocketed out of control; the rates have quadrupled in the last 30 years. It is not all the children’s fault though. They have had a little help through the enormous portion sizes, the pricing incentives that encourage people to purchase large quantities of calorie-dense foods, junk food sales at school, and the reduction of physical activities in some schools. The government has tried to assuage the situation by taking a non-evasive stance from the sideline encouraging the world to eat healthier by choosing to eat fruits and vegetables rather than settling for the convenience of eating junk food. The government also encourages the world to disconnect from the electronics and go out and play in the natural world; get up and exercise in the fresh air even if it is just for a little bit. I’m pretty sure that everyone has seen the play 60 ads everywhere by now featuring famous sports stars to encourage kids to get out and play for 60 minutes a day. To keep the cheerful momentum going the government helps health facilities hold free health screenings for those who cannot afford to go to the doctor on a regular basis; this gives them to see where they stand on the health spectrum. The government is doing somewhat of a good job informing the world about the health risk of eating unhealthily from a backseat point of view; however, to really help people out the government should get more involved physically in the lives of its people.
