We are a country that helps those who are in need. We have been admitting refugees for a long time and that’s what makes the United States a powerful and great country. Who are we to tell those who need our help that they cannot receive our help? In the book Refugee by Alan Gratz, a fictional but heartbreaking story that feels real. This story has real life events like the MS St. Louis, the holocaust, Fidel Castro’s presidency, and the bombings in Syria. This story gives us an idea of how people did what they had to to leave their country. All the pain and suffering they had to go through and how they had to give up their loved ones or that they lost a loved one. The book Refugee hints to political problems in the world. For example in Josef’s story he is on the ship when they find out that there are two more ships that are also headed to Cuba and they start to worry that they will not be let in. Today the United States wants to lower the refugees that enter the country. These people need help and now the government is going to make it harder for them. Many people would want to raise the number of how many refugees are allowed to enter. Many teens and young adults would feel entitled to what they have and would want to help by traveling to refugee camps and help. Many refugees in the country would be treated better instead of being treated as like they are terrorists.
