The Affordable Care Act
The Affordable Care Act‚ which is also called the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act‚ is an Act that was enacted in the United States in 2010 by the Obama administration (United States‚ 2010). It is health care reform legislation and has been nicknamed Obamacare since it was proposed and enacted in the Obama administration. The Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act comprise of e different Acts which include the Patient Protection Act‚ the Affordable Health Care for America Act‚ the Student Aid and Fiscal Responsibility‚ and the third one is the Health Care and Education Reconciliation Act. The purpose of the Affordable Care Act is to bring reforms to the United States healthcare system in a way that would enable more Americans to access affordable as well as quality health insurance. The legislation was also enacted in order to curb the growth of the U.S. healthcare spending. In summary‚ it includes new rights‚ benefits‚ protections and rules for health insurance companies. Generally‚ the Affordable Care Act provides the Americans with relatively better health security through the use of comprehensive reforms on the health insurance. These reforms were meant to expand coverage‚ lower the costs of health care‚ enhance the quality of health care that is received by all Americans‚ and hold insurance companies to be accountable in health care delivery (United States‚ 2010).
