“Special considerations” of affirmative action creates diversity that helps minority students. Osamudia James, a graduate from the University of Wisconsin Law school with a Master of Law (Llm) addressed the relationship between affirmative action and diversity. Her research concluded that more minorities can attend prestigious schools if race is a consideration in university admissions. The attendance of minorities in prestigious universities has had many positive effects: diversity in businesses has expanded, a Hispanic and African American middle class has materialized, more jobs in the STEM occupations are available for minorities, and more students are content with their university encounters (James, 446-447). Doctor Barbara Wolfe, who graduated from the University of Wisconsin-Madison with a PhD in Economics, conducted research with Doctor Jason Fletcher, who also graduated with a PhD in Economics and specializes in educational research. …show more content…

In its current form, affirmative action is well intentioned, but it is rather ineffective, and it sets itself up for causing a stir among whites who feel that minority status is taking precedent over academic performance, and calling this practice reverse discrimination.
