Without affirmative action, how are minorities expected to overcome the striking disparities between minority students who attend community colleges and minority students who attend 4-year colleges? Data collected by the Georgetown Report finds that ever since 1995, “70 percent of all new black and Hispanic students” enroll in “open-access” institutions including community colleges. Meanwhile, Caucasian students like Abigail Fisher still dominate the enrollment spaces at more competitive, 4-year institutions such as Louisiana State University. The chances for minorities to expand from their current socio-economic statuses will unsurprisingly become slimmer than what they already are. But what more could people expect when the abolishment is intended to only satisfy people who belong to the majority. With alterations in admission reviews, Caucasian students like Abigail Fisher, who only possess a 3.59 GPA, would not even benefit from a university that was forced to strictly follow a 10 percent rule. As a result, abolishing affirmative action would not only decrease the chances of enrolling minorities but also the chances of enrolling Caucasian students of different class ranks.
