According to our class lectures the senate and the House of Representatives together make the legislative branch in our government. Our President, Vice President and Cabinet make up the executive branch. The judicial branch is made up of multiple court systems. The history of this action goes back to the court case of Brown vs. Brown Board of education of Topeka Kansas which occurred in 1954, the Supreme Court made a decision that still impacts us today. According to the United States Courts, what occurred was that Linda Browns daughter applied to a white school which was her local school and was not accepted because she was African American. Went to the Supreme Court (head of the judicial branch) and they ruled that segregation was unconstitutional. Courts stated that public schools were violating the fourteenth amendment, therefore; giving minority children an equal opportunity. The Civil rights act of 1964 helped the formation of affirmative action. The outcome of this era would be that sex and race would not matter when going for a job or applying to a school. Desegregation during this era impacted everyone. Diversity today is a norm, one hundred years ago diversity was never thought of because it was illegal for colored people to interact with white people. In every race there is everything such as criminals, geniuses, average people which is why we should have them interact with one another because some people have better ideas than others. We need to be open minded. Most minorities know what it is like to suffer and when admitted to a college will have a motive to strive for the best. There are some people who would go in and abuse his/her power, therefore; you give requirements like we have today in universities such as have a high school diploma, and have a certain grade point average. Personally I believe everyone who wants a shot at something should at least attempt it because one never knows what they are capable of doing. Affirmative action policies allow us to educate on another with certain traditions every race has and you can get an in depth look at a religion. Educating one another is very important. Diversity is not a problem because we learn from each other. Minorities should have an opportunity if deserved. Today affirmative action impacts our college and universities and some do not deserve an opportunity, its reality we got to face it some are just wasting their time in a university because they will never
