Management theorist have been prevalent since the early 1700s, they have developed numerous managerial practices which has ensured organisations and companies are able to function efficiently and effectively. These practices have altered management theories throughout time ensuring they are capable of moving into the 21st century. The purpose of this essay is to explore different management theories in order to identify whether they are still relevant to contemporary entertainment business practice in todays society. Though each theory being discussed have adapted to the new age of the entertainment industry, the goal is to find out which one is most relevant today, if any. Even though their have been a multitude of management theories developed since the 1700s the three that will be discussed in this essay are Administrative management, Human relations management and contemporary perspectives ( Contingency theory), Looking at what these theories are and how they apply to todays entertainment industry.

The Administrative Management Theory was established in the late 1800s and ran through to the 1940s. The first theorist to introduce this management style was Henri Fayol (1841-1925). Fayol’s management theories were developed to assist organisation with their hierarchical needs of the business focussing more the managerial aspects instead of any individual workers deficiencies, which ensured the management of large organisations…
