A Taste of Domesticity in Stokes State Forest Throughout my four years of high school, I had never had a friend come back from a post-prom weekend in Wildwood and describe to me what sounded like a “good time.” The stories they told always had the same synopsis that centered around drunken fun and even drunker stupidity. Hordes of juniors and seniors slept in small dirty motel rooms. They spent way too much money on alcohol, and they often got swindled into paying hundreds of dollars to stay in an otherwise dirt cheap motel because no decent place would allow teenagers to party like they did. we arrived at Stokes State Forest, and since check in wasn’t until three and it was only about noon, Devin, Sean, Mitchell and I went hiking. It should probably be said that I have some serious ankle problems and that hiking wasn’t the best idea. I slowed the group down and became the butt of many of their jokes. I was in charge of the inside of things, the baked beans, the drinks, setting the outside table, and unfortunately cleaning up. It made me feel so accomplished for some reason. Mitch grilled burgers that had way too high of a fat content, strangely making them some of the best burgers I ever had in my life. The rest of the group started calling us Mom and Dad, as Mitchell cooked and I ran around putting a camera in everyone’s face because I didn’t want to ever forget this moment. We laughed and ate, while Sean carved our friend Devin’s name into a tree in complete secret. The night finished with a fire, and smores, a million mosquito bites and just as many laughs. We begged Devin and Sean to stay the night. After they left, Mitchell, Haley, Jackie and I went inside and played card games, while Anthony spent at least an hour making sure that every coal on that fire had cooled
