“Morning, guys,” I said as I greeted the small group of tired teens in the living room. “Morning. Are you guys ready to head out?” My friend Ethan asked the group he led out of their rooms. It was probably safe to ask this question at this time of day. We were about to embark on a trip out into the wilderness of Gatlinburg, TN that we had never laid eyes on. The best part? We left at 6:30 in the morning with plenty of snow on its’ way. So, we were prepared. We looked like Odysseus as a beggar with rag-like clothing wrapped around us, hoping to retain warmth through our journey. We are not exactly new to early mornings and crazy activities. It tends to come with being an Explorer. “Did we really have to get up this early? Breakfast is in two hours,” Michael moaned, as he dragged himself to the door with his ski mask on. “Yeah, it is pretty early. We could always wait until sunrise,” Dominic insisted. He was struggling to zip up his jacket, which was restricted by the heavy coat that he was also wearing. By the time they got done complaining, the rest of us had already left the cabin. We had already discussed this trip the day before: If you change your mind, you better say so early on, because the trail was a long way away from the cabin. While we were walking on the paved road leading up to the trail, it finally dawned on me: …show more content…
It was not very eventful, other than the fact Tanner got us lost and we ended up in the middle of the road about a football field away from our cabin. We remained on the paved trails that time, but we passed by a side trail that was only made up of trees and dirt. The group talked about maybe going there the next morning, but I was not sure if I was welcome to come along. At least not until they talked about it, agreed on going, and turned to me and asked, “Are you

The Shared Characteristics of Odysseus and Everett In O Brother, Where Art Thou, the main character Ulysses Everett goes through a journey with two of his friends to find his way back home. Everett expresses that he is full of pride and arrogance based on the actions and choices he makes on his journey. Odysseus, the protagonist from the Odyssey, shows that he is controlling and full of pride when he accomplishes his goals and becomes a hero. Everett is a worthy representation of Odysseus because they are both arrogant, controlling on their journey, and loyal to their men.…

Chapter One. Sunday mornings were always the busiest days in the Falelua household. There were early morning prayers that are held at 5am in the morning, then the women of the Falelua family start preparing meals for the day until it's time to get ready for church. Seeing as there are 8 people living under a five bedroom house and one bathroom, you would imagine how long it took for each and every person to shower and be ready for mass. After Mass and Sunday school, there are big feasts prepared by the women and then there would be bibble study.…

“Odysseus’ Journey” The epic poem we all know shows much detail of struggles that is being thrown at the ‘Teller of Tales’ Odysseus. “The Odyssey” by Homer shows that Odysseus goes through so many things to get back home to his wife Penelope on the land of Ithaca, but which part is most importantly impacted on the hero? Today Kit and i led the group to Izaak Walton lake. I was nervous this morning for taking such a big role. I didn’t want the power to get to my head and end up being mean or over demanding. In the early morning i went around telling people to get water and start undoing their tents. Surprisingly we ate, broke down our gear, and began our stretch circle forty minutes before the usual.…

Similar to Odysseus’ treacherous journey home, my odyssey through middle school had its moments of success and defeat, happiness and frustration, and absolute uncertainty. From being adrift on my makeshift raft in a vast sea of sixth graders to my final days in middle school, I have obtained many new traits comparable to Odysseus’. As a new sixth grader, I was optimistic and hopeful of the years to come, analogous to Odysseus’ confidence that he would ultimately return to Ithaca. Through seemingly endless hours of studying, I gained the ability to make sacrifices and prioritize in order to succeed. Odysseus also demonstrated this skill when making decisions and sacrifices in acute situations to benefit as many people as possible.…

The relationship between the individual and his/her society is a subject of continual interest not only to philosophers and religious thinkers. We, as individuals, have hopes, plans, needs, and expectations. Likewise, society has its own, which present itself in the form of laws, traditions, and needs for the greater good. Often, these needs and demands of the individual come in conflict with those of society, and this raises problems for both. Due to the importance of this relationship, the conflict is often presented in many literary works.…

Recalling Homer’s and various other poet’s literary accounts of the gods of the Greek pantheon, Socrates and Adeimantus encounter an apparent issue concerning the classical education of the citizens in the republic. Homer chronicles numerous accounts of treachery, dishonesty, and explicit immorality of the gods. If guardian class citizens are to be the most virtuous of the republic, they must not be tainted with such stories of deceit, especially in those relevant to the gods. Socrates states that a god must be described only as he is, which they have concluded, is a god most righteous and responsible for all things good and none bad (379 a-b). Once the tales of the gods’ fighting and sabotaging one another have been declared untrue, Socrates…
