I took a hike on the High Acres nature path, with my Mom, Sister and golden retriever, Tobey. When I first entered the trail, the path started really wide and began to get narrower. Along both sides of the trail were big tall weeds hanging over and rubbing against you. When we were getting close to the pond you could hear the different types of birds chirping, grasshoppers clicking, and bullfrogs croaking. We approached our first intersection, and decided to go left on to the old, white, wooden bridge.…

School has been blast so far. I did not know of all the things that I could do here, now I sort of do. This school has many good spots to eat, which is a plus to me. Other than that, I love all the work that I do here. The work is not just busy work like it was back in high school, which is the way I like work to be.…

How many people get to say that they have nine miles of hiking trails and streams right in their backyard? I had moved houses five times before I even reached middle school so when we moved to our current home, I didn’t think we would stay more than a couple years, but thankfully that was not the case. When we first settled in, I noticed a path leading into some trees behind our condo building and knew I had to explore. As I walked through the initial thicket of trees on the dirt path, I saw several bird houses in a field of flowers with another trail leading deeper into the woods. I took that trail and soon found that it broke out into three more trails, then into another three, and then another three.…

Everyone needs a break once in a while but not when it comes to your bones. The older a person becomes the greater the chances are that broken bones will become a reality. As we age the changes in our diet along with the hormonal changes in our bodies causes our bones to become brittle. They are less able to handle the stress of a fall or other traumatic event we may sometimes find ourselves in. Even though most people do their best to take care of themselves often we find that may not be enough.…

Night time in the woods can be eerie. It was the night of the opening of trapping season and I was on my way to my friend’s house in Dundee. “CRACK!” Glass shatters across the kitchen floor and instantly a pool of yellow fills in the lines of the tiles. The scent of mustard consumes the room; I look down at the bright stain on my brand new cutoff jeans, and started to tear up. My middle school experience was different than most middle schools around the area, like Eurekas. This had to do with the fact that I lived in Indiana at the time. They were different because my elementary school was K through 5th and my middle school was 6th through 8th. In the beginning of sixth grade, I moved from Wisconsin to Indiana. This was one of the many moves that I had to go through.…

This essay is supposed to be all about me, and I must state from the very beginning I don’t do well talking about myself. To be completely truthful, I tend to cry almost every time I have to write anything about myself. My parents have always motivated me, as I sit there and cry, telling me that I can do it. It would seem rather odd if I didn’t start this by talking about my family. My parents have always been there to help and support me in anything and everything I have ever put my mind to.…
