I believe it is important because everything starts with “me”. I have to be dedicated to do better, which means actually putting effort in to succeed. I have to come to class everyday to learn and improve. For me, I used tapas in a way to remain myself why I’m in yoga. Like I mentioned before, I never really liked yoga but over time I learned to enjoy it. In order for someone to achieve a goal, one has to be dedicated to it first. My goal coming into yoga was initially just to do good to make my GPA look good. Overtime, it changed into doing better in asanas. What I gained the most from yoga is probably knowledge and academic experience. It’s funny to think about how unintelligent I was about yoga. I never knew there was so much information that was involved with yoga and how yoga ties everything together. I just thought it was all about doing weird poses. Yoga gave me a sense of having an open mind and trying new things. Yes, sometimes the things we do in yoga were unusual and kind of weird liked when we hummed and covered our faces, but yoga involves weird and unusual things like that so I didn’t mind it at all. Not only was it weird and unusual it also did clear my mind, and made me focus on my inner self to be in a meditative state. This helped me clear my mind and focused on different parts of body. Something else that opened my eyes about yoga was doing my dance paper. I never took notice of how similar Hmong dancing and yoga were. Having that kind of experience and comparing the two was fun and interesting. It made me realize how big of an impact yoga has in my surrounds outside of
