Taking a yoga class was something I did not plan to do for a GER requirement. I was leaning towards more of a tomboy type of class such as, sports, fitness or even drawing, and yoga did not fit that category. However, my plans changed and yoga was my last resort. I didn’t hate yoga or anything, I just though it wasn’t my type of thing. At first, I was skeptical about it. I honestly just wanted to drop the class, but couldn’t. Knowing that I had to stick with it, I learned to enjoy it more and more as the year progressed.
Yoga class was something I enjoyed doing after a long day of class. And learning about Yoga made it even more special, such as, the 8 limbs of yoga, Yamas, Niyamas, Asanas, Pranayama, Pratyahara, Dharana, Dhyana and Samadhi. These limbs of Yoga were the foundation of yoga itself. I believe this was the most important piece of information I obtained from yoga. Each of these limbs has taught me something about my surrounds and myself. Tapas (self dedication), was probably the most important within the Niyamas. I believe it is important because everything starts with “me”. I have to be dedicated to do better, which means actually putting effort in to succeed. I have to come to class everyday to learn and improve. For me, I used tapas in a way to remain myself why I’m in yoga. Like I mentioned before, I never really liked yoga but over time I learned to enjoy it. In order for someone to achieve a goal, one has to be dedicated to it first. My…
