Hiba Kalache’s Historic Dialogues is a diptych that combines an aquarelle ink painting and an aquarelle on paper. Each of the parts of the diptych is 120x120 cm. This creation is one of Kalache’s private collections and it was made in 2014. Ms.Kalache describes this piece of art as a psychological autobiography where she reflects her own personality. She combines the happy moments but also the sad ones and the moments of anxiety in her art. In her description of her work, Kalache talks about psychogeorgraphies and she explains that it’s how a person relates to the environment or the space that surrounds him or her and expresses this relation in a painting. Through a contrast of colorful splatters and grey ones, she establishes her relationship with her surroundings. Having two separate parts is her way of showing us the two different cultures and geographic spaces that she has a relationship with, being Lebanon and the United States and she characterizes those with grey and yellow stains that symbolize urbanization and the chaos of the city. However, the two parts are related, when we combine them together, her brain is formed and from her brain, she diffuses art, being the colorful splatters of acrylic in the painting. Those colors are her art and her ideas which represent part of her identity and this shows that she also influences the world around her. She also shows that she is influenced by the spaces surrounding her by attributing the same colors to the inside of her brain as the ones that characterize the cities around
