I find it degrading to women that the “girls were viewed as entertainment, and eventually as athletes. One of the things that I found that was degrading was the uniforms that the AAGPBL girls had to wear. It was not a technical baseball uniform. Part of it is that people know that girls cannot compete physically against men. There are more professional male sports then there are professional female sports. Also if one looks at the average built of the two different genders they are quite different. It would be quite hard to compare an average male to and average female in the same sport.
After the war ended and the men’s league resumed, AAGPBL ended. This happened because the situation changed, and the United States and the allies were winning the war. Also, Roosevelt said that men’s baseball will not be shutting down. By men’s baseball not being shut down they do not need the AAGPBL anymore. Another thing is that the women were not as equal, and the men needed to support their families. Plus there was no room for girls in baseball one the war is over.
I think it was unfair that the AAGPBL had ended. As one could see in the movie many of the girls enjoyed playing baseball for a living. By the girls play baseball, it got them out of the kitchen, or out of a job that paid $0.10. In that time period when AAGPBL was around the girls did not play professional sports.
