Paper 1: A Good Man is Hard to Find The story, “A Good Man is Hard to Find” by Conner O’ Flannery is based upon a fictional level. This story describes the main character known as “the grandmother” being an explanatory manipulative, self-centered, narrow woman. The grandmother is this way because she wants everything to go her as planned in her perspective and claims to say that all things go her way. The grandmother has planned for the family to go on a certain trip, although she decides to go elsewhere with her family and this leads to a difficult cause. Although later on her son refuses to go, yet she does not want to go to Florida. The grandmother is only trying to protect him from some criminal known as “the Misfit” who has murdered others from several places. This lady is trying to change her sons mind by persuading him to go rather than just asking him. The grandmother lies to the children about the panel and later tells that they are in the wrong location. She goes with her son and his wife and family, they go off to an adventure and get into a crash. Since she considers herself as a lady, Conner O’Flannery states that “in case of an accident anyone seeing her dead on the highway would know at once that she was a lady.” (pg.338). This indicates that she would always she herself considered herself as being a good woman towards others and did what she thought would be the best as well as not expect anything less.
