A Case Study of Friendship
-Excerpt 1 of a Memory-
It was just another ordinary summer day for most, the sun was out, the sky was clear and sausages sizzled on barbecues – it was hot, and it was serene… bar the mosquitos. But for me and my friend, Jerald, it was the perfect day for what we had arranged over lunch in the playground.
With our parent’s collaboration, it was that Summer Saturday which was to be the first of the many times I would go over to my friend’s house to play. But it was more than that, it was the first time either of us had been to another’s house, or had a friend over in his case.
There was also something else that made this day special; I had received a gift around two months ago - for a certain holiday - and I was dying to try it out. This game… could only be played by two people, and I couldn’t bring it to school, because it would have been confiscated! So I had decided to bring it along with me.
My parents drove me over to Jerald’s house at around morning teatime, and at first I was extremely excited to be able to play with him. But that feeling was quickly replaced with another emotion entirely, because when I saw his house: I was in Awe.
Poor Jerald, his mother must have worked him to the bone, because his house was immaculate! Both the exterior and interior were more stunning than anything I had ever seen before, not that I had much to compare it to.
