I knew as soon as I walked through the door of EMP Studios that Chandler Throneberry was going to be one of my best friends. Chandler is the complete opposite of me. Many people from my hometown use the phrase, “Everything is greater in Decatur.” Decatur, GA is where I was born and raised and has been an integral part in shaping me into the young lady I am today and the woman I am becoming. Members of my family and my community have gone on to do great things outside of this city, which has provided solid proof that there are more great opportunities outside of Decatur, GA. People have left to become educators who are now teaching, guiding, and delivering necessary tools for individuals to be successful; lawmakers who are developing plans and policies to create a well-balanced and structured society; professional athletes who are working diligently to study and perfect their craft, and many other professions.…

Fast enough, I had figured out that she was on all of my competitive sports teams and I began to recognize her around progressively often. Her name was Lainey Owens. Not only did Lainey become my best friend, but was benign, sociable, loyal, and never failed to brighten my day. Throughout our friendship, I had been pleased and there was never a dull time.…

After 4 years of patiently waiting and anticipating, the day finally arrived. Every year, the graduating class of School of the Ozarks gets the opportunity to travel to Greece and Italy for a nine-day excursion. As an underclassman, I always envied the seniors when Spring break came around, because of the amazing opportunity they had. Now, after a total of thirty-three hours of traveling, my body flopped on the cheap hotel bed in Athens, Greece. I buried my face in the pillow, waiting patiently my best friend to come in through the door.…

The day seemed to drag on and on, as I waited, counting down the days to California. It was a humid, sunny afternoon down at the Alton pool, where I usually spend most of my summer days working as a lifeguard. Today was very different than most…. And maybe the reason why was because it was my last day of work before I flew off to the big L.A. Most days at the pool the time went by slower than any I have ever known, with the scorching hot sun burning my skin, and little kids yelling at their friends telling each other secrets or what they want to play next.…
