〖Mg〗_3 N_2 – Magnesium Nitride

This compound is an ionic compound, meaning that there contains a metal and a nonmetal. In this instance, the metal is magnesium and the nonmetal is nitrogen. Therefore, in the flowchart, you would look under ionic compounds. Then you would know that the positive cation comes first in the naming process. So, magnesium is the first ion you name. But the compound here does not contain a metal that forms more than one type of cation. Therefore, it is monatomic and will have the anion as the second ion in the naming process. Don’t forget to add -ide to the end of the anion. This makes the name of this compound Magnesium Nitride. CO – Carbon Monoxide

This compound is one of the simpler ones to name. Is this case,

I am in receipt of an MG-2 form filed by Dr. Czajka on 08/23/17. The doctor is requesting back therapy, two (2) to three (3) times a week for six (6) to eight (8) weeks. The Special Funds approved the MG-2 on 08/24/17. It is my understanding the doctor is going to ask for a years worth of physical therapy as he has done in the past. This MG-2 is good for a eight (8) weeks and he certainly can renew it after you have done the eight (8) weeks of physical therapy.…

Whenever the word nitro comes up it turns to something explosive. In chapter 5 it is mainly about nitro compounds and it explains what is and how it works based on the molecular structure. Nitro compounds are indeed explosive. Gun powder can be considered one of the earliest items to be referred as a fire chemical component. The gun powder components are known to be all reactive products which cause the reaction of an explosion.…

In this experiment, solid magnesium is used with hydrochloric acid to produce magnesium (II) chloride and hydrogen gas. The gas is measured with an inverted graduated cylinder. Solid magnesium was under the cylinder while HCI are poured from a funnel into the cylinder to perform the reaction where hydrogen gas is trap inside the graduated cylinder. The average molar volume of hydrogen gas at STP is 20.839 L/mole for the experiment, which is about 6.97% off from the true value. One potential error could be from the funnel.…

The element niobium was discovered in 1801 by Charles Hatchett in an ore called Columbiye that was sent to England in the mid 1700s by John Winthrop the Younger. He was the first governor of Connecticut. Hatchett named the element Columbium. In 1846 though, a chemist named Henrich Rose independently discovered the element and ended up naming it niobium. It was them officially adopted by the name niobium in 1950.…

Revisiting the results, it could be organized into a small incomplete activity series of metals. Magnesium would be first since it reacts with all the aqueous solutions and displaces their metals to create a reaction. Second metal in this activity series would be aluminum. The reason for this is because aluminum displaced all the aqueous solutions except the one that contains magnesium. This proves that magnesium is more reactive than aluminum, putting aluminum under magnesium.…

According to the picture that I have in my data, Na2Co3 is basic. So that means “Substance B” is Na2Co3 (Sodium Carbonate). Again if we look at the color flame picture that I have, we can see that Magnesium is white, and in my color flame test “Substance A” didn’t show any colors when we put on the flame.…

Nitro-glycerine, another chemical explosive, was discovered by an Italian chemist named Ascanio Sobrero in 1846; although the Chinese invented gun powder at least 1,000 years earlier. Although Ascanio Sobrero first called his discovery pyroglycerin, it soon came to be known generally as nitro-glycerine or blasting oil. The first chemical explosive was black powder, also known as gunpowder, a mixture of charcoal, sulphur and potassium nitrate (saltpetre). An explosive is a reactive substance that contains a great amount of potential energy that can produce an explosion if released suddenly. It is usually accompanied by the production of light, heat, sound and pressure.…

Discussion There were four goals for Project 11: Identification, Properties, and Synthesis of an Unknown Ionic Compound. The first goal was to identify the unknown compound, the second goal was to determine the reactivity of the compound, the third goal was to determine the quantitative solubility of the compound in water, and the fourth goal was to find the percent yield of a product from a reaction involving the unknown compound. Determining the identity of the unknown compound was achieved by performing a variety of tests for the physical properties of the substance. Some of these properties, such as melting point and chemical structure, could be discovered by making a few immediate observations of the substance. The unknown compound…

The burning of magnesium in open air causes a chemical reaction that forms the compound, magnesium oxide. This reaction occurs due to the heat that provides energy to activate the reaction. A blinding white flame will burn as the reaction occurs. In this lab, magnesium is burned in an open crucible over a Bunsen burner several times until the magnesium ceases to burn. This process allows for the magnesium to completely react with the oxygen found in the open air, forming the chemical compound magnesium oxide.…

Gravimetric Analysis of a Metal Carbonate Purpose The purpose of this lab is to find the mass of an unknown metal by conducting a double-displacement precipitation reaction, which is our gravimetric analysis. Once we find the precipitate mass, we can then find the molar mass by using the molar ratio given in the reaction equation. Procedure First, we set up the ring stand with a Bunsen burner, put a crucible on top of the pipe stem triangle and heated the crucible for a minute, then let it cool down.…
