You are being watched even when you don't know. You don't realize that everywhere you go there is some form of technology stuck on the wall keeping a lookout for you. As in 1984 by George Orwell the citizens from oceania are lucky to even be able to breathe because their freedom is being violated in so many levels. In today's society some of oceania rules are being resembled in the government. There is always a way where the government can find where you have been or where you are heading to next. No one should have the fear of being watched or heard in their own privacy because the government decides to be noisy and spy on them without their consent. American citizens should be allowed to feel free and distressed wherever they …show more content…
The people living in this city couldn't even think because they were so afraid that even in their thoughts they were not safe. For example “winston kept his back turned to the telescreen. It was safer; though, as he well knew, even a back can be revealing.”(Orwell,pg.3). This is significant because winston knew that he wasn't really having freedom because if he needed to hide from the big telescreen then that means whatever winston was holding, eating, or watching was not right in the eyes of the government of oceania. This is similar to today's society because the government prohibits certain things to the people and so that corners them into doing it in hiding. This is making people feel like they are being delinquents. Another example that the author says in the book is “but it was never possible nowadays to pin any date within a year or two.” (Orwell, pg.7).This quote is saying that this society was so sick that it has taken the most privacy that a person could have which is in the mind and just completely brain washed it. This is also similar to now's society because the government tries to disappear any important information that would be helpful to the people. That is basically taking part of their privacy because they are taking something away from …show more content…
This quote is saying that every camera you see around the streets can be accessed from the police department all the way to the government. This is another form of the government involving itself in someone else's privacy because you could be in a store texting somebody something very important and private and the government can just decide to turn on the camera in the store and read everything you are writing. Another example of citizens losing their privacy is “skyhook developed the first hybrid location system to use Wi-Fi positioning , GPS, and cell-tower triangulation to determine the coordinates of a device, even indoors”. (DesMarais, 2012). What this quote means is that new and highly smart technology is being invented and its crossing the line on privacy. This new piece of technology is aware of where you are, if you are currently there or not, what exact day and time you were at a certain location, and possibly what's your next
