How are train authorities completed? |
Train authorities may be used in conjunction with existing safe working systems. Train authorities render assistance when a train becomes disabled or derailed, and also if a train cannot complete its journey due to obstruction and has to return to the station or crossing loop in the rear. Train authorities may be used when the train staff and ticket system is suspended due to the staff for the section being lost, damaged, over carried or at the wrong end of the section. A train authority must: - be on the prescribed form - be in ink and block letters - have no erasures, alterations or abbreviations - be brief and clear - contain only essential information |

After being issued with a train authority, what must the driver ensure? |
A driver must not proceed into the section unless the train Authority: - complies with the conditions - is fully understood If the instructions on the train authority are ambiguous or unclear the driver must confer with the train controller. The driver must carry at least 15 train authority forms. When receiving a train authority delivered by the signaler the driver must: - bring the trying to a stand - read the contents of the train authority - sign the butt of the form When receiving the train authority directly from the train controller the train must be stationary. The driver must repeat the particulars back, spelling out location names and distinctly pronouncing numbers. In all instances it is the drivers responsibility to confirm the content on the train authority is correct. |

Where drivers change over, the changeover driver must contact the train controller prior to departure and verify the train authority. The driver must endorse the train authority with the word verified together with the time, date and signature. If a driver incorrectly fills out a train authority it must be cancelled. |

How are train authorities cancelled? |
Once a train authority has been issued, it remains in effect until it is canceled. Signaller in Attendance When the train has arrived, the driver must immediately hand the train authority to the signaller. The signaller must confirm that the train is complete and then cancel the train authority. Signaller not in Attendance The driver must confirm the train is complete and then cancel the train authority by writing CANCELLED, time, date and signature across the face of the form and notify the train controller. All train authorities cancelled by the driver must be handed in at the drivers Home Depot with an regularity report. |
