What is the mean of a group of numbers ?
The mean is the sum of a group of numbers divided by the number of the group of numbers.
What is the median of a group of numbers ?
The median of a group of numbers is the number where half of the numbers are less than it and half are greater than it.
What is an outlier ?
It is an observation that falls well above or below the bulk of the data.
What is the mode of a number set ?
The mode is the value that occurs most frequently in a data set or a probability distribution.
What is range in statistics ?
The range is the length of the smallest interval which contains all the data. It is calculated by subtracting the smallest observation (sample minimum) from the greatest (sample maximum).
What are variables ?
The characteristics observed to address the questions posed in a study are called variables.
A variable is called categorical ____________.
if each observation belongs to one set of catergories.
A variable is called quantitative ____________.
if observations on it take numerical values that represent different magnitudes of the variable.
What are the two diferent catergories of quantitative variables ?
Discrete and continous.
A quantitative variable is discrete_______?
if the possible values form a set of seperate numbers ie a finite number range.
A quantitative variable is continuous_______?
if the possible values form an interval. ie they have an infinite possible set of values.
What is an experiment?
an activity whose results can be observed and recorded?
What is an outcome?
each of the possible results of an experiment?
what is a sample space?
A set of all possible outcomes for an experiment.
What must be present for a line graph to be valid?
1.both axes must have label.
2.graph must have a title.
3.graph must start at zero.
4.scales must be evenly spaced
Why should you not use volumes to graph one dimensional measurments?
volume distort images of measuremnts due to the fact that a change in volume signifys a large change in the dimensions of an object.
Why does a circle graph better compares different groups?
Because it uses precentages and the size of the sections are representative of those precentages.
A geometric sequence is obtained_______.
by multipling by a fixed number
What is the formula for determine a number in a geometric sequence?
An=A1*R^N-1
What is the formula for determine a number in an arithmetic sequence?
A
